Open Adoption in California allows adoption birth mother to enter into a
Legal Contact Agreement with adoptive parents and receive future information
about the child.

There is NOT just ONE typical Open Adoption Relationship.
Birth mothers and adoptive parents can choose from the following options:

• Confidential: Select information is shared between adoptive parents and
  birth mothers. The exchange of information usually ends after placement.
• Mediation: Pictures, letters and gifts are exchanged by mediators
  (adoption agencies or lawyers) - without fully revealing birth mother’s and adoptive parents’ identity.
• Full Disclosure: Open Adoption Records (Children for Adoption page?) -
  Fully disclosed information between adoptive parents and birth mothers -
  meetings, letters and phone calls.
